SCSU golfers finish fifth at FAMU Spring Invitational

TALLAHASSEE, FL - The South Carolina State men's golf team carded a 36-hole team total of (309-310) 619 to finish fifth at the eight-team Florida A&M Spring Invitational which concluded Sunday at the Par 72, 6998-yard course at the Killearn Country Club.

Coach Richard Arrington's team was unable to improve its position from Saturday when they were also fifth after the first 18 holes.

Spearheading the SC State effort was senior Matt Gilliard, who finished 15th with a 10 over par (76-78) 154. He was followed by teammates Robert Biggers (79-76), Cory Jozefiak (97-76), and first-day team leader Hector Arroyave (75-80), all at 155. Also participating for the Bulldogs was Aaron Robinson who had a (85-85) 170.

Bethune-Cookman, who was tied with Johnson and Wales after the first round, took nine strokes off its first day card of 292 with a 290 Sunday to win the event with a 36-hole total of 582.

Johnson and Wales was at (292-299) 591, followed by host Florida A&M with a (310-299) 609, Thomas University at (308-307) 615, with the Bulldogs rounding out the top five.

Savannah State was sixth at (312-312) 624, followed by Morehouse, two strokes back at (301-325) 626, and Winston-Salem State at (332-327) 659.
