If you have items lurking about your house that are no longer wanted or needed, then now is just as good a time as any to get rid of them.

Elks Lodge #897 will hold a consignment and garage sale Friday and Saturday, March 7-8, at the lodge, located at 1720 Joe Jeffords Highway in Orangeburg.

The sale will be held 3 to 8 p.m. Friday and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Items for sale will include adult and children's clothing and shoes, furniture, toys, pictures, appliances, books, dishes, bedspreads, curtains, linens, lamps and more.

Items will be collected through Friday's start of the sale. Glenn Sweat, Elks Lodge member and chairman of the event, said donated items should be clean and in good condition.

"We feel like we're going to have a lot of clothes and furniture," he said. "We're going to have all of this stuff reasonably priced."

All sales are cash and final. In addition to the items above, the lodge will hold a bake sale Friday and Saturday featuring homemade cakes, pies, candy, cookies, bread, jams, jellies, pickles and more. And from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, vegetable soup, corn bread and a drink will be available for $3 per person.

"Not only will participation help those who want to get rid of some things, but it will also help those charities we support," Elks Lodge President Carroll Joye said. He said consignors and the lodge will split the sale of items 50-50. Consignors do not have to be present to sell their items.

Joye said some of the lodge's charitable work includes supporting scholarships for area students, offering youth activities and donating to Alzheimer's research.

"It's a great thing," he said.

Sweat said the nonprofit is looking to have a large number of items for sale.

"If you're looking for a good deal, come on out and look us up," he said.
