BEAUFORT (AP) -- A developer will pay $61 million to buy 5,000 acres of land in Jasper County not far from a planned port.

Broker Billy Gavigan didn't ide.jpgy the buyers. But he tells The Beaufort Gazette that they plan to use 2,000 acres for an industrial park to work with a planned $450 million port jointly operated by South Carolina and Georgia about five miles away.

Gavigan says the rest of the land will either be residential or commercial.

The land also crosses Interstate 95 and U.S. 17 and has easy access to rail lines.
