Candidates file for local offices
By T&D Staff Monday, March 24, 2008With a little less than a week to go before the two-week filing period ends at noon Sunday, local Democratic candidates -- including a challenger for sheriff of Orangeburg County -- continue to sign up for various offices.
John Edward Cokley filed Monday to challenge Orangeburg County Sheriff Larry Williams, who filed for re-election to a four-year term last week. Williams also filed as a Democrat.
Also, Calhoun County Treasurer Rebecca Furtick and Bamberg County Councilman Isaiah Odom of District 5, both Democrats, have filed for re-election to four-year terms.
Orangeburg County Democrats file at the Davis Law Firm on Centre Street or by contacting party Chairman Betty Henderson at 803-531-3888 or 803-274-8540. Republicans file at the Travel Center on Russell Street or by contacting party Chairman Jim Ulmer at 803-568-2313.
In Calhoun County, Democrats file at Smoak Building Specialties. Charles Crook, the party chairman, can be reached at 803-874-3051. Republicans file in the conference room of the Courthouse Annex, Friday through Sunday, March 28-30.
Bamberg County Democrats file at the Clerk of Court's office during regular business hours or by contacting Chris Wilson at 803-245-7799 or James B. Hiers at 803-245-3025. Republican candidates also file at the Clerk of Court's office or by contacting Kay Maxwell at 803-245-7606.
The filing period ends Sunday at noon. Party primaries are scheduled for June 10, with the general election to be held on Nov. 4.
