COLUMBIA, S.C. - A sheriff’s deputy has been wounded and a suspect killed during a shootout while officers were searching for drugs at a Richland County home.

Sheriff Leon Lott said agents were serving a search warrant at the home in northwest Columbia about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Lott said the suspect fired when officers entered the home, striking deputy Marcus Brown in the arm. Brown returned fire, hitting the man, who died at the scene. His name was not released while relatives were notified.

Two other people in the home were not hurt and were being questioned Wednesday afternoon.

Lott said agents had surveillance footage of the suspect selling drugs.

The State Law Enforcement Division was investigating.
