Atlantic Broadband to carry entire Atlanta Braves TV schedule

AIKEN, S.C. – Atlantic Broadband announced today that 45 Atlanta Braves baseball game telecasts previously believed to be unavailable will in fact be provided to the company’s customers. The games will be carried (at no extra charge) on Channel 66, part of the Value service tier.

With the addition of the games on Peachtree TV (WPCH-TV), Atlantic Broadband will be carrying the entire Atlanta Braves TV game schedule, with the balance of games on Fox Sports Net South (Channel 37 Value tier and 458 in HD) and SportsSouth (Channel 20 Value tier).

“Atlantic Broadband worked very hard over several weeks to make this happen, despite initial word from Turner Broadcasting that carriage of the 45 games would be prohibited. We know that many of our customers faithfully follow most, if not every, Braves game on TV, so we are delighted to be able to do this,” said General Manager Sam McGill.

The issue surrounding the remaining 45 games arose when Turner spun off Peachtree TV, from its national WTBS “super station,” and designated it a local broadcast station for the Atlanta metropolitan market only. At that time, Atlantic Broadband was notified that Peachtree would not be available outside the Atlanta region. Atlantic Broadband then initiated talks with Turner to allow its customers access to the Braves telecasts, but is unable to carry other Peachtree TV programming.

The cable company purchased the rights for the games and has installed additional equipment to pick up and distribute the signal.

The first two Braves game on Peachtree TV are exhibitions against the Cleveland Indians, at 7 p.m. Friday (3/28) and 1 p.m. Saturday (3/29). Peachtree also will carry the Braves’ season opener against the Pittsburgh Pirates at 7 p.m. Monday (3/31).

Atlantic Broadband serves 21,000 customers in Aiken, Barnwell, Bamberg and Allendale counties. The privately held company is ranked the 15th largest cable operator in the United States. Atlantic Broadband, headquartered in Quincy, Massachusetts, has over 500 employees and 286,000 customers located in four operating regions: central Pennsylvania, Miami Beach, Aiken and Maryland/Delaware. Additional information is available at www.atlanticbb.com.
