S.C. bill banning stripper lap dances hits a snag
By The Associated Press Wednesday, April 02, 2008COLUMBIA, S.C. - A bill requiring exotic dancers to stay six feet from their customers in South Carolina has stalled.
The measure would effectively ban lap dances and require strip clubs to close at midnight.
A subcommittee approved the idea last week. But House Judiciary Committee members on Tuesday eagerly sent the bill to a different subcommittee for further review.
Representative Garry Smith suggested making each time strippers and customers come within six feet of each other a separate offense. The Simpsonville Republican says he hopes the proposal will reduce crime around strip clubs.
An official with the American Association for Nude Recreation called the proposal a sad bill that tries to legislate morality.
