Queen, Princess of Roses pageants set for Saturday

Stevenson Auditorium will be full of beautiful ladies tonight for the 2008 Orangeburg Queen of Roses Scholarship Pageant.

Nine young women will be competing for the coveted title at 8 p.m. Saturday, April 12. Admission is $5 for youths and adults 13 to 64 years of age and $3 for those 12 years old and younger or 65 years of age and older.

Contestants are Gabriel Brickle of Orangeburg, Ariel Fox of Leesville, Meredith Hoffman of Lexington, Hannah Kitchings of Orangeburg, Ashley Malphrus of Summerville, Kristen Mixon of Bamberg, Andrea Whittington of St. Matthews, Kristen Williams of North and Nikki Yancey of Columbia.

Contestants will compete in Sportswear, Talent and Evening Gown/On Stage Question. Judging will be on a 1 to 10 scale with the highest overall score being crowned Orangeburg Queen of Roses. Awards for Orangeburg Queen of Roses include a $1,500 scholarship, crown and trophy. First and second runners-up will receive $750 and $500, respectively, and trophies. The Talent Competition Winner will receive a $500 scholarship and trophy.

Tamalyn's Dance Centre will perform the opening number and special entertainment throughout the program.

The 2008 Orangeburg Princess of Roses Pageant will be held at 3 p.m. today at Stevenson Auditorium. Age divisions are: Orangeburg Princess of Roses--15-16 years old; Teen Orangeburg Princess of Roses--13-14 years old; Young Orangeburg Princess of Roses--10-12 years old; Little Orangeburg Princess of Roses--7-9 years old; Wee Orangeburg Princess of Roses--4-6 years old.

The 2008 Orangeburg Queen and Princess of Roses pageants are sponsored by the City of Orangeburg Parks and Recreation Department, the Orangeburg Festival of Roses and 100.3 WORG FM.
