TAKE UP A HOBBY: OCFAC to hold summer art classes
By T&D STAFFThursday, May 22, 2008Students in grades one through eight should look no further than the Orangeburg County Fine Arts Center for a summer hobby as the Arts Center gears up for its summer art classes beginning in June.
This year's classes include:
- June 9-13 -- 10 a.m.-noon. Sculpey Clay Bead Making with Jo Wyrosdick or Line Dancing with Laura Snipes. Open to students in grades one through eight.
- June 16-20 -- 10 a.m.-noon. Learn to Sew with Jean Hawks or Learn to Knit with Norma Sells. Minimum age 9 years. Sewing machine required for Learn to Sew; limited supplies needed for Learn to Knit.
- June 23-27 -- 10 a.m.-noon. Learn to Sew with Jean Hawks. Minimum age 9 years. Sewing machine required.
- July 14-18 -- 10 a.m.-noon. Square Dancing with David and Louise McCall or Wire Sculpture with Dr. Tolulupe Filani. Open to students in grades one through eight.
- July 21-25 -- 10 a.m. to noon. Acrylic Painting with Elsie Lewis Fogle or Hand-Built Pottery with Janet Kozachek. Open to students in grades one through eight.
- July 28-Aug. 1 -- African-America Folk Art Painting with Helen Stewart. 1:30-2:30 p.m. for first through fourth graders; 3-4 p.m. for fifth through eighth graders.
Registration is $30 for members and $35 for non-members per class. Children's paintings will be exhibited in the Lusty Gallery during the month of August, and a reception will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5. Classes are sponsored by Time Warner Cable.
