Letter was fabricated attack on candidate

After reading the letter to the editor on June 6, we would like to say one thing: Stick to the issues! This letter was an obvious fabrication by the Cobb-Hunter campaign to slander Priscilla Glover-Robinson and her campaign. We believe that people are sick and tired of the status quo behavior exhibited by Gilda Cobb-Hunter and her campaign. We must move in a direction that will place "people above politics."

First, we must say that the writer of the letter is not a registered voter of the district. Next we must say that not only was the invitation not accepted, but the forum was held by a Gilda Cobb-Hunter and CASA employee. He had his own agenda. Is this fair?

In order to pass legislation, you must have relationships. The current representative has torn down what we will rebuild. We believe it is not only important to speak up and think independently but to place the needs of District 66 above your own agenda. Once Priscilla gets to Columbia, she will do that.

We are surprised at the accusations of funding for the Glover-Robinson campaign when Cobb-Hunter has accepted several thousand dollars in special-interest money. That is why Cobb-Hunter is bringing in out-of-district union members to work for her campaign on election day. We have no problem with the elected officials, black or white, supporting us. It is probably because they think Priscilla Glover-Robinson will be more effective.

Cobb-Hunter and her campaign continue to say that Glover-Robinson has no political experience. That’s right. Neither did Cobb-Hunter in 1992. Glover-Robinson is the only candidate in the race from Orangeburg County. She has lived, taught and worked in the district her entire life.

It is a shame that an incumbent would stoop to such a level to protect herself from defeat.

" Are we now saying that the only folks "qualified" for elective office, leadership, etc in Orangeburg are folks originally from Orangeburg? [RE:"Glover-Robinson is the only candidate in the race from Orangeburg County."]

A significant number of the caring, positively contributing members of our community are not Orangeburg natives.

It's just such a mindset the continues to limit the growth, economic, political, et al of the greater Orangeburg community!

If one were to accept that misguided point of view: Dr. Oscar Butler, Mayor Paul Miller, Willie Jeffries, Dr. Maceo Nance, Dr. J.W. Rheney, Jr, Mrs Joyce Rheney, Dr Robert E. "Wag" Howard & many others should have been run out of the community on a rail long ago! "
