SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Denny's Corp. says it will eliminate 50 jobs as part of the company's move toward franchising and away from owning restaurants.

Company president Nelson Marchioli told the Herald-Journal of Spartanburg that all workers will be offered severance packages and job placement services.

Half the workers affected are at the company's Spartanburg headquarters, the other half are field-based employees.

The company has cut about 150 positions since 2001 and now employs about 300 people in Spartanburg. Denny's owns 373 restaurants nationwide and has franchised an additional 1,177.
