Holly Hill's transition highlights SCISA football season

After ending last season as an undefeated champion, Holly Hill Academy will enter next season as both the hunter and hunted.

Thanks to realignment, the Raiders find themselves in a new classification - moving up from 8-man to Class A.

After opening the regular season at home Aug. 22 against Patrick Henry - one of three games against 8-man teams who will play 11-man exclusively for those contests - HHA and head coach Don Shelley will meet a familiar foe in Calhoun Academy. The Aug. 29 contest reunites Shelley with his good friend and former rival from his Orangeburg Prep days, Adam Jarecki.

A week later, HHA will face another former Eight Man foe making the move up to Class A in Clarendon Hall. In Week Three, the Raiders play their home opener against Dorchester Academy and long-time head coach Stanley Gruber.

The Raiders of St. George, who’ve moved up to Class 2-A, and OPS will open in ‘Week Zero’. Dorchester Academy will play host to defending SCISA Class 2-A champion Hilton Head Prep, while the Indians travel to Class 3-A runner-up Augusta Christian.

A team which will have a unique schedule is Andrew Jackson Academy. Although the Confederates will compete in 8-man, it will play two 11-man contests against St. John’s Christian Academy on Sept. 5 and Holly Hill Academy on Oct. 10.

AJA is one of six T&D Region teams opening the season during ‘Week Zero’. It will travel to Bowman Academy Aug. 22 for the first of two meetings this season between the two 8-man rivals.
