MY FAVORITE PSALM': Author, illustrator to sign copies of book Sunday
By T&D STAFF Thursday, June 19, 2008EUTAWVILLE -- An accomplished artist, illustrator and author will be at the Parish House Tea Room on Sunday, June 22.
Ruth Ellen Busbee-Boerman of Hendersonville, N.C., will sign copies of her popular illustrated book on the 23rd Psalm, titled "My Favorite Psalm," which is now in its second printing, from noon to 3 p.m.
The first issue, which was released in January 2007, sold out within six months, and the second printing is on its way to selling out. As an official stop on the South Carolina Heritage Corridor, the Parish House Tea Room provides assistance to an increasing number of tourists who exit the interstate to explore Eutawville's historic sites. In addition to providing travelers with brochures and booklets, the Tea Room also features local artists, authors and craftsmen.
Busbee-Boerman said she did not discover her God-given talent for painting until 1983, while helping her son with a school project. After appearing at arts and craft festivals for several years, she said she felt God was molding her to do inspirational art as well as the landscapes for which she had become known. In 1995, with the two-year sellout of her most popular print, titled "The True Vine," she said she felt the confirmation that inspirational art work should be the major body of her work. Almost all of her paintings contain hidden objects and have a written story included.
Busbee-Boerman completed a popular series based on the 23rd Psalm in 2004, after which she produced a series of 10 in Giclee canvas prints, which turned out to be even more popular. She has since published 16 lithographs, most of which are completely sold out.
She has traveled to Russia on mission trips with her church, and she spent six weeks in the St. Petersburg area of Russia in 2002, serving in churches, orphanages, leading women's Bible studies and spending eight days in a church camp with 50 children.
