The Orangeburg Lions Club conducted vision and hearing screenings on May 6-7 for third-graders and a portion of the fourth-and fifth-grade classes at Marshall Elementary School in Orangeburg.

Club members screened approximately 225 children with the help of the South Carolina Lions Charitable Services organization. There are nearly 1.3 million Lions members among more than 46,000 clubs in 202 countries and geographic areas.

Each member is called to answer the needs that challenge the communities of the world, including blindness, drug abuse prevention and diabetes awareness. Members conduct vision and health screenings, build parks, support eye hospitals, award scholarships, assist youth, provide disaster relief and much more. Pictured, left to right, is Orangeburg Lions Club member M. L. “Buddy” Hawkins and Steve Berch of the S.C. Lions Charitable Services organization.
