Cox Industries, a manufacturer of treated wood products, has acquired ownership of a treating facility in Virginia.

The Blackstone, Va., plant, formerly Taylor Ramsey Wood Preserving, will be known as Cox Wood of Virginia LLC.

Jay Pugh has been promoted from assistant plant manager of Coxs Structural Wood Preserving facility and will serve as plant manager of the Virginia location.

Cox has also acquired a separate sales office in Lynchburg, Va., formerly owned by Taylor Ramsey.

We look forward to continuing the customer and vendor relationships that have been established by Taylor Ramsey and we anticipate a smooth transition, Cox Industries President and CEO Michael Johnson said.

Johnson said Cox plans to retain as many existing employees as possible during the change of ownership.

The Blackstone location will continue operations as a residential treating facility but could possibly incorporate industrial operations in the future.

With this acquisition, Cox Industries further expands its presence in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern United States.

Cox Wood of Virginia is the 12th plant in five states that is owned and operated by parent company Cox Industries. The company, in operation since 1954, employs about 400.

Cox Industries has been a manufacturer and distributor of treated wood products for the residential, commercial, industrial and utility markets.

The Orangeburg-based family-owned and family-operated company produces a variety of quality wood products -- from decks, fences and framing to utility poles, docks, retaining walls and outdoor furniture.
