Orangeburg Veterans Affairs Clinic honored
By LARRY P. JORDAN, T&D Correspondent Sunday, July 13, 2008The staff at the Orangeburg Veterans Affairs Clinic were recognized for their dedication during a luncheon held in their honor at the First Presbyterian Church of Orangeburg.
The Orangeburg County Veterans Council hosted the luncheon, which was held in the church’s Presbyterian Center.
John Cruise, with the support of other members of the council, gave the luncheon to thank the staff for their caring support of area veterans.
Orangeburg City Councilwoman Joyce W. Rheney, who stood in for Mayor Paul A. Miller, and Orangeburg County Council Chairman Harry Wimberly presented a plaque to clinic Director Debbie Hermon.
“We salute the veterans for their service they’ve done for mankind,” Wimberly said.
Brian Steffen, speaking on behalf of the Orangeburg County Veterans Council, said that he has been going to the clinic since it opened. He said that they provided caring service and “give a whole lot of themselves.”
The Rev. Robert Bowman, who represented the Marine Corps League, reminded the veterans that it is “up to the individual to ask for services.” He thanked Cruise for organizing the function and thanked God for those in the Orangeburg VA Clinic.
“Thank you all for what you are doing,” Bowman said.
Hermon expressed appreciation for the clinic being recognized so warmly.
“We are so grateful for what you’ve done honoring our staff,” she said.
