COLUMBIA, S.C. - Home Depot plans to add a big depot in central South Carolina that will employ up to 300 workers.

Company and Lexington County officials said Tuesday the home building supplier will build a $25 million regional warehouse near Dixiana.

Home Depot spokesman Craig Fishel said the warehouse will be built in the next three years.

Lexington County economic development project manager Chuck Whipple says no construction date has been announced.

Whipple told The State newspaper of Columbia the new salaries at the warehouse would average $10.50 an hour.

Fishel says the warehouse will serve stores in South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee and parts of Georgia. He says Home Depot has been moving toward more regional distribution centers in recent years to restock stores more quickly.
