Suds-sippin' safari set at Riverbanks Zoo
Thursday, July 24, 2008COLUMBIA -- Riverbanks Zoo and Gardens' annual Brew at the Zoo will provide the perfect remedy to a muggy day in the Midlands -- samples of cold, frothy beer -- on Saturday, Aug. 2.
From 7 to 9:30 p.m., guests ages 21 and up can walk through the zoo with their souvenir tasting glass and sample from more than 200 specialty domestic, import and microbrews. The plaza will feature live entertainment from local R&B sensation Elliot and the Untouchables, and concession stands will be open around the park with a variety of food for purchase.
Brewmasters will be on-hand to answer questions about home brewing, the brewing process and different brew styles.
New this year, a German-themed buffet complete with sauerbraten, chicken schnitzel, bratwurst and more, will be served in the Ndoki Lodge. Reservations for the buffet must be made by July 30, and Brew tickets should be purchased prior to making reservations. Tickets for the buffet are $19.95 per person and available at www.riverbanks.org.
Brew at the Zoo tickets are available by calling 803-779-8717, online at www.riverbanks.org or at the zoo or garden entrances. A limited number of tickets are available. Tickets are $25 for Riverbanks members and $35 for the general public. All tickets purchased the day of the event will be $40. Proceeds support ongoing conservation and education efforts at Riverbanks.
Designated driver tickets will be available the day of the event to individuals ages 21 and up for $15 (includes unlimited soft drinks). All guests must present valid photo identification upon entering the park. No one under 21 will be admitted. Checker Yellow Cab will be standing by for all participants from 7 to 10 p.m. Riverbanks Zoo and Garden will pay the first $10 of fare destined for private residences or hotels within Richland and Lexington counties.
