Police are asking for the public’s help locating an individual believed to have broken into a Boulevard Street convenience store several times in the last two months, twice in the past week.
A surveillance camera at the Shell station on Boulevard captured an individual smashing the glass at the convenience store before making off with several cases of beer. The last incident at the business, which is located at the edge of the Orangeburg Mall, happened Saturday.
While patrolling the mall, officers heard a burglar alarm going off. When they arrived at the station, they found a glass door had been busted out.
Store cameras caught a slender black male wearing black pants and black shoes, a long-sleeve gray shirt and a black ball cap with light-colored lettering on the front. The subject snatched beer and fled in a vehicle parked nearby.
Last week, a newspaper carrier called police after finding shattered glass at the business.
Around 4:30 a.m. July 21, the newspaperman found the side door of the business shattered. Police arrived and found a 24-pack of Bud Light outside of the store.
Video showed a male apparently wearing similar clothing entering the business between 12:05 a.m. and 12:08 a.m. During that instance, the subject removed at least six cases of Budweiser and Bud Light during two trips inside the business.
The subject is then seen driving off in a small to mid-sized dark colored vehicle.
Police say the series of break-ins began May 22 when someone smashed a door, causing about $500 in damage before making off with a small amount of cash.
Investigators believe the same individual is behind each of the break-ins.
If anyone has any information on the beer bandit, they are asked to contact Crimestoppers of the Midlands at 1-888-CRIMESC or the Orangeburg Department of Public Safety at 803-534-2812.
