Farm Bureau is now accepting applications for the Youth Ambassador Scholarship Program and the SCFB Talent Contest.

Applications are available at the Farm Bureau office, located at 225 Broughton St. in Orangeburg.

The purpose of the South Carolina Farm Bureau Youth Ambassador Scholarship Program, which is sponsored by the S.C. Farm Bureau Women’s Committee, is to cultivate young leaders who can use the advantages of their youth to tell the farm story to audiences who may not otherwise hear it. It is also designed to display to the public that interest in agriculture, as a career, is alive and well.

The SCFB Youth Ambassadors will receive a college scholarship in the amount of $2,000, exposure to state agricultural and government leaders and leadership training opportunities.

Ambassadors will make selected appearances, at SCFB’s expense, on behalf of agriculture and Farm Bureau, coordinated by the SCFB Promotion and Education Division.

Eligible for the scholarship are any unmarried male or female between the ages of 16 and 21 (cannot reach 22nd birthday before SCFB annual meeting) who reside in a Farm Bureau member home. The contestants must compete in or represent the county for which they or their family or guardian has a current Farm Bureau membership. Children or stepchildren who reside in the home of an employee of the SCFB Federation or its affiliates are ineligible to compete. Past state winners are ineligible to compete for a second time in the contest. County winners may not compete for two consecutive years.

The SCFB Talent contest is open to single persons living in Farm Bureau member homes and must compete in and represent the county in which their family or guardian has a current Farm Bureau membership. Junior Group is open to person through 12 years of age at the time of the contest; Senior Group is open to persons 13 through 21 at the time of the contest.

Deadline for applications is Friday, Aug. 15.
