GREENVILLE -- The South Atlantic Division of the American Cancer Society is offering a telephone workshop titled "I Didn't Apply For This Job" to informal caregivers during the month of August.

As a telephone workshop, caregivers can receive information and support related to caring for a loved one with cancer from the convenience of their home or office. There is no charge for the workshop, and no phone charges apply. Topics for the workshop will include concrete steps caregivers can take to address problems that may arise with caregiving and where to turn for help. There will also be time for questions and discussion.

The telephone workshop will be offered three different days and at varying times. The dates and times are:

* Sunday, Aug. 10, from 3 to 4 p.m.

* Tuesday, Aug. 12, from 10 to 11 a.m.

* Thursday, Aug. 14, from 7 to 8 p.m.

Workshop facilitator is Dr. Julia. A Bucher. Bucher, a caregiver herself, is an associate professor for the Department of Nursing at York College in Pennsylvania. She is co-editor of the "American Cancer Society's Complete Guide to Cancer Caregiving." Bucher will share tips and resources for those caring for a loved one with cancer.

To register for a workshop, call 1-800-966-3586. For more information on the telephone workshops, e-mail Meg Garner at meg.garner@cancer.org.

The American Cancer Society is the nationwide community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives and diminishing suffering from cancer through research, education, advocacy and service. For information about cancer, call 1-800-ACS-2345 or visit www.cancer.org.
