An Orangeburg man was extradited back to the Palmetto State Tuesday to face allegations that he shot a Heckle Street man during an altercation in January.

Johnny White, 21, is charged with assault and battery with intent to kill and first-degree burglary.

“Two investigators left Orangeburg County this morning en route to Hanover County, N.C. to take Mr. White into custody,” Orangeburg Department of Public Safety Capt. Mike Adams said Tuesday.

“He was served last week with governor’s warrants. After that, he dropped his fight over the extradition.”

Adams said White was booked into the county jail Tuesday afternoon, where he will await a bond hearing on the charges.

In April, White was arrested near Wilmington, N.C. on charges of obtaining goods under false pretenses, Adams said. Police there discovered he was wanted in South Carolina and alerted authorities here.

Orangeburg investigators say White was wanted in connection with a shooting on Heckle Street.

Police say the incident began around 2 a.m. on Jan. 27, when an individual approached a Heckle Street man’s home. An argument broke out between the two and, when the victim tried to enter his own home, he was shot, according to an ODPS incident report.

A witness later told police that three or four shots were fired. Police believe at least one shot was fired through the door before forced entry was made into the home.

The Heckle Street man recovered after being treated for gunshot wounds to an arm and both legs.
