Charleston Stage announces magical 2008-09 season
Thursday, August 14, 2008CHARLESTON -- Full-scale Broadway musicals, a Pulitzer prize-winning drama, an off-the-wall farce by comic Steve Martin and the world premiere of an all-new version of "Frankenstein" highlight Charleston Stage's 31st season, which will be presented at Memminger Auditorium and the College of Charleston's Sottile Theatre.
Charleston Stage's 2008-09 season of professional productions feature Charleston Stage's Resident Professional Acting Co., Equity Guest Actors from New York and leading theatres around the country and more than 100 of Charleston's finest actors, singers and dancers.
Charleston Stage will offer five major productions in the 2008-09 MainStage Series, including:
* Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim's "West Side Story" -- Sept. 10-21 at the College of Charleston's Sottile Theatre
* Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein" -- Oct. 15-Nov. 1 at Memminger Auditorium
* Harper Lee's "To Kill a Mockingbird" -- Feb. 11-28, 2009 at Memminger Auditorium
* Steve Martin's "Picasso at the Lapin Agile" -- March 11-22 at Memminger Auditorium
* George and Ira Gershwin's "Crazy for You!" -- April 15-26 at the College of Charleston's Sottile Theatre
MainStage season membership ticket packages range in price from $90 to $118, a savings of up to $100 per couple. Flexible season membership options have been added this season, including a pick-your-own three-play package. Season memberships are now on sale.
Charleston Stage will also offer two bonus shows during the 2008-09 season, including a spectacular version of the holiday favorite, "A Christmas Carol, A Ghost Story of Christmas," set for Dec. 4-21 at the College of Charleston's Sottile Theatre, and family friendly "Charlotte's Web," a special production for young audiences scheduled for Jan. 16-25 at Memminger Auditorium.
