BOWMAN — A house in Bowman was destroyed by fire following a lightning strike Saturday.

According to Bowman Fire Chief Sue Davis, the fire call was received at 10:06 p.m., and she said by the time firefighters arrived on the scene, the Dibble Street house was engulfed in flames.

“It was burning for a while before anyone even found it,” David said. “It was one of those old fat lighter houses, at least 100 years old or more. There really wasn’t anything we could do. By the time we got there, the roof was caving in.”

Davis said no one was living at the house at the time, and there were no injuries.

In addition to Bowman Fire Department, volunteers from Cattle Creek, West Middle, Branchville, Rowesville and Providence fire departments also responded to the scene.
