The body of a missing Orangeburg man was found Sunday in a pond off North Road.

Orangeburg County Sheriff Larry Williams said a truck driver called the sheriff’s office around 12:30 p.m. yesterday to report finding what he believed to be a human body in Creekmore Pond off North Road.

Williams said investigators were able to establish the body is that of 38-year-old Devangelist Johnson.

“We don’t have any forensic information to share with you at this time,” Williams said. “From the observations, we can’t tell whether there was any blunt trauma or not.”

Family members told police they last saw Johnson around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. The Shillings Bridge Road man was scheduled to work on Thursday.

When family members called the employer, they were told Johnson never arrived.

Johnson’s body was sent to Newberry for an autopsy, and Williams said his office should have those results by Monday afternoon.
