Board of school for deaf, blind decides to replace president
By The Associated Press Tuesday, August 19, 2008COLUMBIA, S.C. - The president of the South Carolina School for the Deaf and the Blind has left after just seven months on the job.
The Board of Commissioners for the Spartanburg-based school won’t say why Pamela Shaw is being replaced.
The State newspaper of Columbia reports that the board made the announcement Friday after a 4 1/2-hour meeting closed to the public. Shaw declined to answer questions about the decision.
Her attorney could not be reached Saturday.
Carol Mabry will serve as the school’s interim president. She was vice president of outreach services.
State salary records show Shaw earned $115,000 a year as president.
Beyond its main campus in Spartanburg, the school has six centers across the state.
