Elite 11 2008: Robert Smith
Tuesday, August 19, 2008Robert Smith, QB., So., 6-0, 185, Woodland
No play is over when Robert Smith is your quarterback.
At 15, Smith likely isn’t through growing. As a freshman last year he looked strong on film. Smith consistently broke tackles, ripped free from defenders in the backfield and made smart passes.
On one pass, the freshman’s front foot sat on the 10-yard line and he hit a receiver in stride across midfield at the 45. He has a hitch in his throwing motion that is awkward, but he can zip the ball in on slants just as well as he can get it down the field.
Also, when he takes off, Smith can really create with his 4.67 speed and strength. There is room for improvement, but Smith has that knack for making plays, doing the right things at the right times, that the great ones have.
