Canaday accepted at law school

ELLOREE, S.C. - Elloree Town Clerk Chasity Sanders Canaday has been accepted into the Charleston School of Law.

Canaday is the daughter of Wayne and Tracy Sanders of Santee and the oldest of six children. She is also the mother of three sons, Jackson, 5; Cooper, 3 and Clay, 2.

A 1999 graduate of Holly Hill Academy, Canaday graduated as valedictorian of her class and was named “Most Likely to Succeed.” She is a former winner of the Lt. Governor’s Writing Award and was named a Governor’s Scholar. She also attended Governor’s School, where she studied creative writing and law.

While at Holly Hill Academy, Canaday was a member of the National Honor Society, the Academic Bowl Team, the Math Bowl Team, the yearbook staff, the HHA Double Sextette, the varsity cross-country team and the varsity cheerleading squad. She was also a youth mentor and was named a Palmetto Fellow, a Lander Junior Fellow, a Presbyterian Junior Fellow and a Wofford Scholar.

Canaday was named a National Merit Scholar in 1999 and accepted a full academic scholarship to Florida State University, where she was a member of the Gold Key Society and FSU Honors College.

She was also a member of the Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity, where she served as her pledge class president and was named “Outstanding Overall Pledge” and won the A Phi O Leadership Award. She was also a recipient of the Iota Rho “Outstanding Service” award because of her volunteer work with the Second Harvest Food Bank and the March of Dimes Foundation.

Canaday graduated from Florida State with honors in 2002 with a dual degree in English and political science, with a pre-law emphasis. She also minored in history, public administration, American literature and religion.

Currently serving as town clerk/treasurer for the Town of Elloree and clerk of court for Elloree Municipal Court, Canaday is a member of the Municipal Court Administration Association of S.C., the S.C. Business Licensing Officials Association and the S.C. Municipal Finance Officers, Clerks and Treasurers Association.

Canaday is in her second year of the Municipal Clerks and Treasurers Institute, sponsored by the Municipal Association of South Carolina and the University of South Carolina School of Public Policy and Administration. She is the recipient of the 2007 MASC MCTI Scholarship, sponsored by the SCANA Corp.

She is an active member of the Elloree Heritage Museum’s Program Committee, the Pythian Sisters of Elloree and the Mentor Book Club, where she serves on the Committee for Encouraging Literacy. She is also a member of the Elloree Lions Club, where she was named the club’s first female member in 2006.

In her free time, Canaday serves as the director of communication and public relations for St. Matthews Youth Baseball, is an academic tutor and enjoys spending time with her family.
