The Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for help in its investigation into the fatal shooting of a Charleston Highway man on June 28.

Erick Marion Dickson, 27, of 2461 Charleston Hwy., Orangeburg, died after he was taken to the Regional Medical Center to be treated for gunshot wounds.

A neighbor of the victim told investigators that at around 9 p.m. that night, he heard a gunshot just prior to seeing Dickson leave as a passenger in a truck.

Investigators found a large amount of blood, a shell casing and two bullet holes at Dickson’s residence.

At the hospital, the wounded man was under sedation when deputies arrived to question him. Dickson never regained consciousness and died at about 6 a.m. on June 29.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office at 803-534-3550 or CrimeStoppers of the Midlands at 1-888-274-6372.

* An Orangeburg man was charged with armed robbery Thursday. Larry Johnson, 18, of 170 Gold Drive, was charged after he turned himself in at the Orangeburg-Calhoun Regional Law Enforcement Complex.

Johnson’s charge stems from a robbery that occurred near the junction of Landfill Road and Hwy. 601, according to an OCSO incident report.

A 49-year-old Orangeburg County man said a vehicle with four men inside cut off his vehicle, blocking him in. Three of the men exited their vehicle armed with handguns, according to the incident report.

The gunmen took the 49-year-old’s wallet and got back into their vehicle before speeding away, the report said. Deputies are seeking warrants against at least two other subjects believed to have been involved.

* A Navy Drive Crime Watch member called Thursday to report damage to the neighborhood Crime Watch signs.

The Crime Watch member said several of the area’s signs were pulled out of the ground and left lying by the road.

* A Orangeburg County man on Saturday reported his lawn equipment and air conditioning unit missing.

The man said when he went to his property in Cordova, he discovered a green riding lawn mower, a blue push mower and a black trailer were missing. Also missing from the Cherry Hill Road residence was a Carrier air conditioning unit, bringing the total amount lost to $7,500.

* An Orangeburg woman reported a suspicious vehicle Thursday that deputies discovered had been reported stolen, according to an OCSO incident report.

Deputies were told about a white 1994 Ford Crown Victoria located in a wooded area off Alva Street. When they checked, the vehicle identification number came back as belonging to a vehicle stolen from the jurisdiction of South Carolina State University.

* Deputies asked a free-spending Fred Astaire to tango early Saturday, according to an OCSO incident report.

A woman said she was at a Santee nightclub at 1:24 a.m. when a man asked her to dance. Once the dance was over, she watched as the man pulled out a folded dollar bill, stating, “Here’s a dollar for a tip. Don’t open it, it is drugs,” the report said.

The woman said she opened it and inside there was a white powdery substance. She immediately found a club bouncer.

When deputies arrived, they asked to cut in to dance with the man outside, where the big spender said he’d found the drug-loaded dollar, the report said. He said a straw that deputies located in his pants was something he’d found somewhere.

Deputies charged the Norway man with possession of cocaine.
