The 13th annual Safe Kids Super Saturday, sponsored by the Regional Medical Center's Safe Kids of Orangeburg, Bamberg and Calhoun Counties, will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at the Orangeburg County Fairgrounds.

Safe Kids Super Saturday offers tri-county residents an opportunity to learn about accident prevention and health promotion while being made aware of the many resources available to them. The event is free and open to the public, and children attending should be accompanied by an adult.

"Accidental injury is the number one killer of children from birth through 14 years of age," said Kathy Funderburk, Safe Kids of O-B-C executive director. According to Safe Kids Worldwide, poverty is the major contributor to that statistic, and living in a rural setting increases the risk of injury to children, as well.

Designed to promote safety, a healthy lifestyle and accident prevention to children and their parents, Safe Kids Super Saturday will feature a drive-through child safety seat check, child identification protection, bike rodeo, free health screenings and a variety of safety demonstrations, RMC's bloodmobile and the Orangeburg Department of Public Safety's "Smoke House." Bike helmets will be distributed to youngsters prior to participating in bike rodeos, and Safety City will teach children safety practices on the streets.

For more information about Safe Kids Super Saturday, call Funderburk at 803-395-2822.
