Wellness celebration true community event
Tuesday, August 26, 2008With so much need for focus on health and wellness, it was nice to see such a wonderful turnout at the 5th annual Orangeburg Wellness Celebration on Saturday, Aug.t 23.
There were 54 exhibitors on display at the Prince of Orange Mall with the Regional Medical Center anchoring the event, bringing 14 departments and the blood mobile. Tabitha, in the blood mobile, mentioned that she expected maybe three pints of donated blood and was up to 9 pints when I gave. Thousands took the opportunity to be screened and even had the chance to meet a few doctors from the hospital who answered questions. Fitness, nutrition, financial and spiritual exhibitors were busy handing out info and answering questions. It was great to see so many people concerned about improving their health.
The event could not have been a success without the committee and support of the community. Kimberly Rigney did a superb job of leading the committee and ensuring that all aspects were in place. Probably the best lineup of demonstrations and entertainment in the existence of the event was coordinated this year by Kayla Stroman and Peyton White. Volunteers from South Carolina State University were coordinated by Carrie Houser James. It was truly a community experience. After having worked with so many great people on this , it gives an appreciation of the hard work community organizers put into making events a reality.
