Three local students to attend GSSM
Saturday, August 30, 2008HARTSVILLE -- Kayla Broeker, Lauryn Jamison and Gee Pathak, all of Orangeburg, were accepted to the South Carolina Governor's School for Science and Mathematics. They joined 69 other students from 29 counties as the class of 2010.
Broeker is the daughter of Jeff and Lisa Broeker, Jamison is the daughter of Lamar and Alfreda Jamison and Pathak is the daughter of Madhawendra and Gita Pathak.
GSSM is a public, residential high school for academically talented and motivated juniors and seniors. It offers college-level courses and a hands-on curriculum with a special focus on science, math, technology and research.
The fourth of its kind to be created, GSSM is one of 14 specialized science and math programs in the nation. The school has been nationally recognized for its overall excellence, strong mix of intellectual challenges, dedicated teachers and rigorous research opportunities.
GSSM classes began Aug. 20.
