Edisto Center to hold Fall Field Day

BLACKVILLE – From peanuts and beef cattle to soybeans and cotton, Clemson University’s Edisto Research and Education Center will open its fields from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, for the annual agricultural showcase.

 

The event, which is free and open to the public, features the choice of two morning tours between 9 a.m. and noon:

 

* The peanut tour includes presentations on herbicide efficiency, disease management, digging date by variety and response to potash levels.

 

* The beef cattle tour includes details about opportunities for winter feed management in a drought year, watering options for livestock and forage, and managing grazing to maximize utilization.

 

* Over lunch, the indoor program features a long range weather forecast from the S.C. Department of Natural Resources, and a wheat update.

 

A third tour between 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. will take in corn, cotton and soybean crops. Presentations include variety trials, an Asian soybean rust update, and insect management for cotton and soybeans.
