AVX withdraws air pollution permit for SC plant
By The Associated Press Monday, September 01, 2008MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - State environmental regulators say an electronic components manufacturer has withdrawn its application for a permit to emit hazardous air pollutants at its Myrtle Beach headquarters.
The state Department of Health and Environmental Control said Friday that AVX Corp. asked that its application not be processed. The application is for a manufacturing process that involves regulated emissions.
A message left for a company spokesman Friday was not immediately returned.
The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reported Friday that the Myrtle Beach City Council and about 50 residents had formally opposed the company's application.
The company is being sued by neighboring landowners over pollution found in groundwater surrounding the plant.
