An alert customer tipped off management of a local eatery to possible employee theft.

The customer told deputies that on Sunday she was at the McDonald’s on St. Matthews Road placing an order. She said the order came to $5.77.

However, the customer, who said she is familiar with McDonald’s procedures, noticed the employee making incorrect key entries. The employee then placed the receipt behind the counter.

When the employee turned away, the customer reached over and retrieved the receipt, which indicated the order came to $3.08.

Later, she faxed the receipt to the store’s management.

A manager at the business told deputies they had observed this transaction on video. There were other suspicious transactions that came back to that employee, the manager said.

A 33-year-old Orangeburg woman was taken into custody and charged with breach of trust.

In other reports:

*A Cordova man notified deputies Thursday after discovering someone had removed the catalytic converter from his vehicle.

The man said that when he went outside to start his vehicle around 7 a.m., the truck made a loud noise.

Closer inspection revealed someone had cut away the $800 catalytic converter.

* A concerned citizen brought it to the attention of law enforcement Thursday that several barriers had been placed to block Stilton Road.

The citizen said that around 9:27 p.m. the Department of Transportation barriers were found to be blocking both lanes of Stilton.

The deputy removed the barriers. There are no suspects at this time.
