Thursday Night Prep Football

Denmark-Olar 35, C. A. Johnson 0

DENMARK - The Vikings earned their first win of the season by shutting out C.A. Johnson 35-0.

Anthony Holman was 18 of 28 passing for 230 yards with four touchdowns and an interception. Holman was also D-O’s leading rusher with 44 yards on five carries.

Treaver Workman caught nine passes for 130 yards and a touchdown while teammate Kenneth Jennings had seven receptions for 83 yards and two touchdowns. Adam Mundo also contributed with an 8-yard touchdown reception.

Denmark-Olar (1-1) will be on the road against Williston-Elko next Friday.

Woodland 38, Lake Marion 6

SANTEE - Woodland was able to bounce back from last week’s loss with a 38-6 win over the Gators.

Wolverines quarterback Robert Smith was 11 of 22 passing for 157 yards with two touchdown passes. Smith also rushed for 60 yards on nine carries. Both touchdowns were caught by Gabriel Brown.

The Woodland defense, minus two starters, also came up with a safety in the third quarter to add to their dominant performance on the road.

“I’m pleased,” Wolverines head coach Reed Charpia said when asked about his defense. “They’re playing aggressive and they’re beginning to learn what to do.”

Woodland (1-1) will play host to North Charleston next Friday.

Calhoun Academy 28, W.W. King 19

ST. MATTHEWS -- Adam Jarecki wasn’t thinking 28-19.

Well, at least not when his team took a 28-0 lead over W.W. King Thursday night. But, Jarecki’s Cavaliers gained just one first down in the second half, on their final drive, to let King back into the game.

“I knew King was going to come to play,” Jarecki said. “They were very physical ... very well coached. They do some good stuff, and they kind of marched down the field a little more than I expected in the second half.”

The Cavaliers got things started early when Taylor Culler hauled in a 61-yard scoring pass from quarterback Andrew Robinson, who finished 5 of 10 passing for 163 yards and three touchdowns.

Trez Wienges then scored on a 20-yard pass from Robinson with 1:17 to go in the first. Bryan Love scored the two-point conversion to put CA up 14-0.

Love then scored on a 76-yard run with 7:43 to go in the second quarter. Jake King added the extra point and CA was up 21-0.

King then scored on a 6-yard run with 1:31 to go in the third quarter before W.W. King made its late run.

Wienges finished with two catches for 65 yards and two touchdowns. Bryan Love had seven carries for 99 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, Caleb Chappell had 10 tackles and Jimmy Reed collected an interception.

Calhoun Academy (2-0) travels to Florence Christian for a 7:30 p.m. game Friday.

St. John’s Christian 34, AJA 22MONCKS CORNER -- AJA’s brief foray into the world of 11-man football ended in a loss, but head coach Greg Langdale wasn’t too upset.

“I was proud of our effort,” he said. “I wish we would have had more than three days to prepare. That hurt us with not being able to put in a lot of stuff. The boys seemed to enjoy it, and it was a good experience.”

AJA was led by quarterback Edward Givens who was 18 of 28 passing for 106 yards and two touchdowns. Ryan Fender had eight carries for 97 yars and a score and hauled in a pass for 60 yards and a score. Chris Long had nine carries for 42 yards and seven catches for 50 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, Zach Barr had seven tackles for the Confederates.

AJA (2-1), returns to 8-man play Friday at Jefferson Davis.

JV Football

HHA 39, Clarendon Hall 0

SUMMERTON -- Jonathan McWaters scored twice on the ground and passed for another touchdown to lead HHA past Clarendon Hall.

Kyle Caron had a touchdown reception for HHA; Travis Spence rushed for a touchdown and returned a punt for a touchdown, and Jay Shuler rushed for a touchdown.

HHA (1-0) travels to Dorchester Academy Thursday at 7 p.m.
