Calhoun's Sims commits to Kentucky

Snapping a three-game losing streak to an old rival in convincing fashion was not the only thing which made Thursday night special for Calhoun County.

After getting heavily recruited by Big Ten and Southeastern Conference schools like the University of South Carolina, Elite 11 quarterback/defensive back David Sims announced his intentions to sign with the University of Kentucky.

“I was comfortable with (offensive coordinator) Joker Phillips,” Sims said following the 39-7 victory. “We have a pretty good relationship and him being the offensive coordinator, that’s a plus for me.”

Head coach Walter Wilson also thought Kentucky, who signed defensive lineman Donte Rumph last year, was a good fit for Sims, who’s expected to play at running back.

“He’s going to run the ball and he felt comfortable with Coach Phillips,” Wilson said. “He’ll be there with Donte also. So it’s a great fit.”
