SAVANNAH, Ga. - Officials have closed southern Atlantic ports as the area prepares for Tropical Storm Hanna.

The U.S. Coast Guard closed the Georgia ports of Savannah and Brunswick and the South Carolina ports of Charleston, Port Royal and Georgetown to inbound vessels Friday. Officials say the ports will be assessed after the storm has passed to determine whether it’s safe for traffic to resume.

In North Carolina, the state Ports Authority said docks at Wilmington and Morehead City are closing to commercial traffic and all nonessential employees are being sent home.

The storm’s center was expected to make landfall along the Carolinas coastline early Saturday.
