Town will flush lines more often following report of discolored water
By SHERRYL M. PETERS, T&D Correspondent Sunday, September 14, 2008NORWAY – Water lines will be flushed more frequently in the town after a Norway Town Council member complained of a yellow tint to the water.
Councilman Greg Covington asked why the town water was discolored and was told by Jimmy Thomas of the water department that the water lines are “quite old.”
Thomas said town employee Willie Freeman has been flushing the water lines but that he would ask Freeman to flush the lines more frequently.
Norway’s water system is operating within S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control guidelines, Thomas noted. He said the monthly bacteriological sample results were not in but the annual mercury level results were satisfactory.
Thomas also reported that the Orangeburg Department of Public Utilities plans to raise its rates 15 percent effective Nov. 1, but it was noted that Norway has no intention of raising its customers’ rates.
