The Orangeburg County Fine Arts Center announced the following people and groups have been awarded subgrants for the second quarter of 2008-2009:

* Orangeburg Wood Carving Club to assist with expenses for the Wood Carving Show, Competition and Sale at the Orangeburg County Fair.

* Del Rae, jazz singer/pianist, to assist with her Musical Wellness Entertainment Program at area nursing homes, hospitals and senior centers.

* Elloree Heritage Museum & Cultural Center to assist in purchasing a Plexiglas bonnet to protect a rare native American vessel from the Mississippian Culture, which is to be displayed in the museum’s archaeological room.

* Orangeburg Civic Ballet to assist with annual performances of the Nutcracker Ballet.

The Fine Arts Center offers quarterly grants to artists and arts organizations, service organizations and other non-arts organizations planning arts events. These grants range in amount from $100 to $1,000 and are partially funded by the South Carolina Arts Commission, which receives funding from the National Endowment for the Arts.

The grants are also funded by an award from the John and Susan Bennett Memorial Arts Fund of the Coastal Community Foundation of South Carolina. All grants awarded must be matched by the recipients.

Artists seeking grants must be full-time residents of Orangeburg County and cannot be undergraduate students. Organizations seeking grants must hold federal tax-exempt status or apply through a qualified fiscal agent, and must be chartered in South Carolina as a non-profit organization or governmental agency.

Artists and organizations may apply up to four times per year, but may receive only two grants per year. Applications are available at the Fine Arts Center, 649 Riverside Drive in Orangeburg. The next subgrant deadline is Nov. 15 for projects beginning in January, February or March.
