O-W tops Lake Marion
SANTEE -- The Bruins easily defeated the Gators 36-14.
Roderick Davenport scored on a 3-yard run for O-W and added the ensuing two-point conversion. Jaquan Rivers and Cyril Davis each found the end zone for the Bruins on a 1-yard run. Rivers also had a two-point conversion in the game. Davis later threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to Kintrell Disher. K’Sone Williams contributed to the O-W scoring with a 25-yard touchdown run.
Defensively, Brandon Lee had a 50-yard interception return. Ricardo Mitchell and Mike Brown had fumble returns of 55 yards and 35 yards respectively.
Lake Marion’s Todd Keitt scored on a 44-yard pass from Chris Jenkins. Marcus Clark also caught a 30-yard touchdown pass from Jenkins, who added the two-point conversion immediately after the score.
Orangeburg-Wilkinson will travel to Irmo while Lake Marion heads to Edisto. Both games will take place at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
OPS 27,
Pinewood Prep 6
SUMMERVILLE -- Orangeburg Prep improves to 3-1 with Thursday’s win over Pinewood Prep.
Cap Thackston had two touchdown passes against Pinewood. Benjamin Cooper caught the first touchdown pass for 30 yards. Sean Odom hauled in the second touchdown pass for 15 yards. Thackston also had a rushing touchdown from seven yards and the ensuing two-point conversion. Micah Godwin also had a 10-yard touchdown run with Evan Graves adding the extra point.
Hastine Jennings led the OPS defense with seven tackles and two sacks. James Burns also had seven tackles while Austiin Williamson finished with six tackles. Tray Godowns recovered a fumble for the Indians. Odom and Cooper each had an interception in the win.
OPS (3-1) will host Laurence Manning immediately following the B-Team game.
HHA 41, St. John’s Christian 0
HOLLY HILL -- The Raiders picked up their second win of the season by throttling St. John’s Christian in a shutout.
Travis Spence led the HHA offense with three rushing scores. Jonathan McWaters scored on a 7-yard run while Jacob Grooms found the end zone from 45 yards out. Kyle Carone added a punt return for a touchdown.
Defensively, Madison West recorded a fumble recovery for the Raiders.
HHA (2-0) will host Calhoun Academy at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
CA 25, Richard Winn 0
Calhoun Academy picked up their first win by blanking Richard Winn 25-0.
Aric Smith led the Cavaliers with 114 rushing yards. Jamie Sanders had 82 rushing yards and a touchdown. Nick Taylor recorded 24 rushing yards and a touchdown. Huddleston came up with 23 pass yards. Phillip Tyler gained 20 of those yards on a touchdown pass from Huddleston. Smith also finished the night with a 42-yard touchdown strike to Taylor.
Defensively, Tyler led the Calhoun defense with eight tackles. Taylor had an interception while Hunter Sawyer collected three fumble recoveries.
Calhoun Academy (1-1) will travel to Holly Hill Academy on Thursday at 7 p.m.
B-Team Football
OPS 28, Pinewood Prep 18
SUMMERVILLE -- The Indians won their third straight with a 28-18 victory over Pinewood away from home.
Cameron Thompson had a 4-yard touchdown and a two-point conversion in the first quarter. Reeves Connelly scored on a 25-yard run in the second quarter giving OPS a 16-0 lead. Chase Stoudenmire connected with J.J. Union for the two-point conversion. Stoudenmire found Derrick Andrews in the third quarter on an 11-yard touchdown pass making it 22-8 OPS. Thompson added the final score for the Indians with a 37-yard touchdown run in the fourth with 7:43 to go.
The Indians’ defense was led by Connelly with seven tackles and Andrews with six. Fielding Blanchard had two interceptions while Union also picked off an errant Pinewood pass.
OPS (3-0) will host Laurence Manning at 5 p.m.
Varsity Volleyball
O-W teams swept by Aiken
AIKEN - Orangeburg-Wilkinson (4-2) fell to Aiken 25-23, 17-25, 12-25 and 15-25
Kayla Wright had 15 service points, six assists and two kills and Shemeka Randolph had nine kills and five service points for the Bruinettes.
Earlier, the junior varsity team fell to Aiken 5-25, 15-25.
O-W will play host to White Knoll on Tuesday.
Woodland 3, Bethune-Bowman 3-0
ROWESVILLE -- Woodland swept the Lady Mohawks 25-9, 25-12, 25-17.
The Lady Wolverines were led by Angel Elmore with 15 points and eight assists; Bobbie Blake also collected 15 points; Heather Hill finished with four kills.
Somazia Pelzer had seven service points while Rhonda Hook came away with nine assists and Jasmine Shuler had five spikes for the Lady Mohawks.
Woodland (6-3) will be in action at Cane Bay at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Bethune-Bowman (2-2) will play host to Cross on Sept. 25.
H-K-T 3, North 0
NEESES -- The Lady Trojans took three straight games against North at home 25-14, 25-17, 25-18.
Iesha Anthony led H-K-T with 15 points, 11 aces and a kill; Shanquita Youmans tallied 11 points, five aces and two kills; Markahia Smith and Brittney Milhouse each had nine points in the win.
H-K-T (4-3) will head to Fox Creek on Tuesday at 5:30.
HHA 3, CA 0
HOLLY HILL -- The Lady Raiders defeated Calhoun Academy 25-13, 25-17, 25-6.
Leading HHA was Victoria Way with 23 assists, six digs and two aces; Wehme Carolyn Hutto came away with 15 digs, five kills, four aces and a block. Meredith Jenkins also had 12 kills, five digs and two aces. Mary Auburn Shuler contributed with 12 kills, two blocks and two digs.
HHA (9-0) will go for their 11th consecutive win on Saturday at 8 a.m. in the White Knoll Tournament.
Edisto 3, Pelion 0
CORDOVA -- Edisto downed the Lady Panthers in three games 25-7, 25-17, 25-10.
Summer Newman led the Lady Cougars with 16 points, eight aces, four blocks and four kills; Molly Bookhart totaled 10 points, nine kills, three blocks, three aces and an assist; Anna Salley ended the match with 12 points, 11 assists and an ace.
In JV action, Edisto defeated Pelion. Scores were not available. The Lady Cougars are now 3-4.
Edisto (6-2) will host Airport on Monday at 7 p.m. JV will play at 5 p.m.
JV Volleyball
HHA 2, CA 0
HOLLY HILL -- Holly Hill Academy downed the Lady Cavaliers 25-23, 25-20.
Kayla Crider served up five consecutive aces to lift the Lady Raiders to victory in Game 2.
HHA (5-3, 2-0) will be in action at home on Tuesday against Laurence Manning. The match is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
B-Team Volleyball
Edisto 3, Branchville 1
BRANCHVILLE -- The Lady Yellow Jackets fell to the Lady Cougars 25-22, 25-17. 20-25, 25-10.
Jessie Dickson scored 14 points while Alexis Bryant tallied 11 in the loss.
HHA 2, CA 0
HOLLY HILL - Holly Hill Academy improved to 4-1 after defeating Calhoun Academy 25-22, 25-20 on Thursday.
Reagan Mobley had nine service points and seven aces and Candice Sawyer had six service points and six aces to lead the Lady Raiders.
HHA will play host to Edisto on Monday.
