Sales up at Mall of America
By The Associated Press Tuesday, October 07, 2008BLOOMINGTON, Minn. - Despite the gloomy economy, things are looking bright at the Mall of America.
The Bloomington mall is seeing an uptick in sales.
A Mall of America representative says sales are up 5 percent from last year at this time. Stores catering to the middle class and high-end shops are doing best.
Mall of America public relations director Dan Jasper says the mall is "recession-resistant" because its customers come not only from the Twin Cities, Minnesota or the Upper Midwest, but from all over the country.
But not all stores at the Mall of America are immune to the tough times.
Field of Dreams sports memorabilia owner Linda Caruaso says there are some down days, and it seems like the weekends "aren't quite what they were last year."
