Santee man surrenders in shooting case
By RICHARD WALKER, T&D Staff WriterWednesday, October 08, 2008SANTEE – Authorities in Santee say a man wanted in the Aug. 21 shooting that left a Vance man injured has turned himself in.
Santee Police Capt. Anthony Staten said Michael Antonio Brown, also known as “Tony,” has been charged with assault and battery with intent to kill.
Brown went before an Orangeburg County magistrate on Saturday, where bond was denied for the Santee man.
The 20-year-old Brown was being sought in connection with a shooting in front of a Santee nightclub. The shooting occurred in the middle of Highway 6 in front of the Bada Boom Club, according to police.
Staten said the victim, Darryl Fuller, was taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.
“There was a guy who walked up in front of (the victim) and ‘pow, pow, pow, pow,’” Staten said after the shooting. “The victim then went to the hospital” with at least one gunshot wound to his left side.
A police officer was actually near the scene when the shooting occurred. He was investigating a separate incident nearby. The officer heard four or five shots fired, Staten said.
The shooter then fled from the area with police pursuing.
