GROVER -- The Upper Dorchester County Historical Society will hold an October Festival from 3-11 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, to celebrate the completion of phase III of the restoration plans for the 200-year-old Koger Plantation House near Grover. The event will be held on S.C. 19, three miles west of Grover. Visitors are asked to bring folding chairs.

Phase III of the restoration project included wall and ceiling renewal in the four rooms of the main body of the house.

Entertainment will be provided throughout the evening by the World Crabettes, and local bands take the stage beginning at 9 p.m. Admission is free, but there will be a charge for food, children's hayrides and games and more. Guided tours will feature the house with antique displays including furniture, clocks, farming implements, forest and lumbering tools, local Native American artifacts, items excavated from the soil beneath the home and more.

Hundreds of local merchants and individuals have contributed a variety of items to be auctioned. A silent auction will be conducted from 3 to 5 p.m., and a live auction will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Auction items include everything from an automobile to military-style dog-tag chains.

Dancing children, craftsmen, wood carvers, artists and storytellers will be part of the celebration. Proceeds will be used for the continuing restoration of Koger Plantation House and stagecoach stop.

For more information, call 843-563-9504.
