Two men sought in store robbery
By LEE TANT, T&D Staff Writer Saturday, October 11, 2008Authorities are looking for two unknown men in connection with an armed robbery that occurred late Thursday night at a Bamberg Highway convenience store.
The store’s owner was closing down prior to midnight. That’s when two black males walked in and began pointing at him with their hands covered. The robbers told the owner to “give it up.”
The duo made off with the store’s deposit box and fled the scene, according to an Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office incident report.
When officers surveyed the crime scene, they discovered fresh tire tracks outside. The incident report said the suspects “appeared to have left in a hurry. The grass was wet and tire tracks were fresh.”
The store’s owner said one of the culprits was wearing a red hooded pullover and jeans, the incident report said.
He was described as weighing 170 pounds and being 5-foot-11.
The incident report said the other robber was wearing a black hooded pullover with designs on the front and back. He weighed approximately 230 pounds and stood 5-10.
Both men had their faces covered, the owner said.
A surveillance tape confirmed the owner’s description of the robbers.
The owner told Orangeburg County sheriff’s deputies that because the men’s hands were covered while they were pointing at him, he was under the impression they were armed.
He told deputies he was going to turn on the store’s security system when the robbery happened.
