Mrs. Renee Smith Johnson

Funeral services for Mrs. Renee Smith Johnson, of 321 Willow, Orangeburg, will be held at noon, Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2008, at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church, Green Street, Orangeburg, with the Rev. D. Edward Chaney, pastor, officiating.

Mrs. Johnson died Oct. 11, at her residence after an extended illness.

She was born in Darlington County, Oct. 19, 1957, the daughter of Rev. Monel and Martha Lucas Smith. She was educated in the public schools of Darlington County. She graduated from Hartsville High School. She received her BS Degree in Physical Education from Benedict College in Columbia and her Master Degree in Public Health Education from Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana. At an early age, she was baptized at Greenhill Baptist Church of Hartsville. Later she joined Mount Pigah Baptist Church in Orangeburg. She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc., National Education Association and Parlerdale Association. Mrs. Johnson was an instructor at SCSU and a Health Education teacher at Bamberg Middle and High School. She was married to Mr. Herman Johnson for 16 years and to this union, one son was born.

Survivors include her husband, Mr. Herman Johnson of the home; one son, Janathan Brice Johnson of the home; her parents, Rev. and Mrs. Monel (Martha) Smith of Hartsville; one sister, Giovanna Smithe Kelly of Hartsville; her mother-in-law, Mrs. Hattie Ruth Cann of Bowman; brother and sister-in-law, Mr. Kenneth and Lavern Johnson of Columbia; two special nieces, Asia (Jason) Dingle of Irmo and Julia N. Johnson of Columbia; a host of uncles and aunts.

Glover's Funeral Home of Orangeburg is in charge of arrangements.
