Appeal dismissed in attack on doctor
Wednesday, October 15, 2008A man found guilty in a 2001 attack on an Orangeburg doctor will stay in a jail after a S.C. Appeals Court panel threw out his appeal.
In 2006, Marvin L. Meek was sentenced to life in prison in connection with the carjacking and armed robbery of retired orthopedist Dr. Joel R. Graziano.
Meek appealed, arguing that the court erred by allowing an in-court verification without first holding a hearing on the reliability of the identification. He also said a videotaped confession should not have been allowed as evidence because it was given involuntarily.
An Appeals Court panel dismissed the appeal on Oct. 9.
