Orangeburg County joins search for Aiken County man after bank robberies
By T&D Staff Thursday, October 16, 2008The Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office has joined the list of agencies looking for 49-year-old Frank Douglas.
Orangeburg County Sheriff Larry Williams says he has obtained a warrant for the Aiken County man in connection with Tuesday’s robbery of the South Carolina Bank and Trust on St. Matthews Road, near the hospital.
“We’re looking for him for the armed robbery at that location,” Williams said. He said his office identified Douglas as the suspect based on forensic evidence at the scene.
Police say a man entered the bank at around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday and handed a note to a teller demanding money. After receiving a quantity of cash, the man then fled the bank.
Police have not determined how much money was taken in the robbery.
The Summerville Police Department is also seeking Douglas in connection with a robbery there only two hours before the Orangeburg robbery. WCSC-TV in Charleston says Douglas is facing charges there of entering a financial institution with the intent to steal.
He is also accused of crimes in Aiken, Richland, Williamsburg, Lexington and Beaufort counties, according to the State Law Enforcement Division.
SLED Communications Director Jennifer Timmons said Wednesday afternoon that the agency’s fugitive unit continues to actively look for Douglas.
Douglas, who authorities say has more than a dozen aliases, has an arrest record dating from the early ’80s.
If anyone sees Douglas, they are asked to call 911 or 1-888-CRIMESC.
