Hunting tragedy preventable

I came to the Carolina’s when I was 18 years old, having never fired a gun or gone hunting. The people who introduced me to guns and hunting preached two rules:

1. Every gun is always loaded. There is no such thing as an unloaded gun.

2. When hunting, always identify your target. Deer, turkey, etc. Never shoot at movement, bushes or noise or shadows. “Always, always” identify your target.

I hope this will make you think the next time you pick up a gun and go hunting.

Please hunt safely.

– Michael Evenson, Cope
