After the Brownlee to Watkins connection, St. John’s answered with a 1-yard touchdown run by Ellis Hammond with 4:10 to go in the first quarter to make it 7-6 heading into the half.

St. John’s added two more touchdowns, a 57-yard run by Hammond and a 12-yard run by C.J. Downey in the third quarter to take a 21-6 lead.

John Flynn rushed for a 5-yard touchdown with 11:14 to go in the fourth to cut the lead to 21-12, but that was as close as HHA would get. Nick Martin finished with 62 yards on 16 carries and Brownlee was 6 of 13 passing for 80 yards. Flynn finished with 12 tackles and Tyler Van Dyke had 11.

HHA travels to Beaufort to take on Beaufort Academy Friday.

B-H will hold ‘Homecoming’ on Oct. 24 and face C.A. Johnson.

Defensively, Josh Matthews had 14 tackles, Ashton Robinson had 13 and Daquan Berry had 10 for Bethune-Bowman (1-7, 0-4).

The Mohawks play host to Region 4-A front-runner Calhoun County.

Branchville fell to 0-8 overall and 0-4 in region play.

Woodland 26, Bishop England 21

BYRDS -- Robert Smith passed for three touchdowns to lead Woodland (5-4, 2-1).

Smith connected with Dondrel Folk on the game’s opening drive, and Nagui Wright rushed in on the two-point conversion.

Smith then passed to Folk again for a touchdown to put Woodland up 14-0 before Bishop England cut it to 14-7 heading into the half.

Smith opened the second half by throwing a 16-yard touchdown pass to DeKendall Carn to put Woodland up 20-7. Bishop England then cut the lead to 20-14 before B.J. Mazyck scored on a 6-yard run to make it 26-14.

Bishop England cut that lead to 26-21 with about five minutes to play, but Woodland was able to run out the clock thanks to a third-and-long conversion by Smith, who busted free for a 28-yard gain, and a fourth down conversion in which Smith connected with Gabriel Brown for 16 yards to keep the chains moving.

“Coming into this game we knew that Bishop England had a good football team,” Woodland head coach Reed Charpia said. “Our defense bent, but it didn’t break. The offense came through when it had to, and this puts us in a position where if we win the last two games we can win a region championship.”

Estill 20, Denmark-Olar 14

ESTILL -- Denmark-Olar (2-6, 1-3) came back from a 14-0 halftime deficit to put together a potential game-winning drive.

Unfortunately, the Vikings offense stalled on downs on the Estill 35-yard line to end the game.
